How is Bipolar Disorder treated?

Most often Bipolar Disorder is treated with a combination of psychotherapy and mood stabilizing medication.

The psychotherapeutic treatment is in many parts similar to the treatment of depression, but it must be borne in mind that during manic episodes the patients involved are only partially motivated to any form of psychotherapeutic treatment.

In the manic episode psychotherapy is primarily supportive and structuring, primary goal is to protect the patients.
